It would make sense for Sunset Shimmer to be an Alicorn because she is the Human equivalent of the Element of Magic. The Equestrian bearer of the Element of magic is an Alicorn so it would make sense that the Human bearer of the Element of Magic to have at least Alicorn magic. It would just balance everything out.
